Aion was released in November of 2008 in Korea, which is lucky for us Americans because we didn’t have to deal with any of the first week of crazy problems that surround MMO games today. I picked up the game at the US launch and quickly realized that for a game that had been out for almost a whole year there wasn’t much content. I have played my fair share of MMORPGs and this one is really no different in actual game play mechanic, from others that I have played.
There are great points to this game. The character creator for one is probably one of the most impressive I have ever seen. There are no races in Aion, just two factions, the Elysians and the Asmodae. The creator really gives you full control of your characters look, everything from height to ear shape to foot size. Flight is another great feature of Aion. Even though it’s limited and really most of your flying time is spent gliding. There’s PVP in a PVP zone where the two factions face off for control of different points in the zone.
And now the not so great points. As amazing as the character creator is the first 20 levels of the game are pretty dull. The lack of zones in the game really makes it seem like your just following a preset track. Seeing the sights, and killing the baddies. The PVP is available after level 20 and to be honest I lost interest in this game before I got there. Hopefully with the upcoming expansion we will see more variety and more interesting zones and more interesting ways to level up. I will probably presubscribed when the expansion.

“I picked up the game at the US launch and quickly realized that for a game that had been out for almost a whole year there wasn’t much content.” I have heard this from several people and it killed my excitement for the game. I haven’t even played yet as a result. Maybe during the holidays.
Sounds weak.
