Earthworm Jim DSi – Whoa Nelly!

May 26, 2010

What the…what the heck is going on in this game? Earthworm Jim is a platformer from times past, with absolutely berserk level design and the kind of absurdist humor that companies inexplicably got away with presenting to small children in the mid-90s. It’s brilliant, frankly, and a welcome addition to the DSiWare’s downloadable library.

Raystorm HD Demo – Seriously? That’s It?

May 12, 2010

Sometimes, you just want to vaporize waves of anonymous space ships with space lasers. Pew pew. I had fond memories of Raystorm filling this desire on the Playstation (as in the first one, yes), and it was a pleasant surprise to see that the game had been re-released on Xbox Live. Yeah, that didn’t last.

SSFIV Endless Battle – Great Idea or Greatest Idea?

May 10, 2010

Two fighters, “world warriors” if you’re feeling formal and nostalgic, face each other across a concrete field of battle under an imposing overpass. The air is still, the fighters motionless; experience and skill makes it so that any move will be met with a counter move, and the first fighter to even twitch in a [...]

StarCraft II Collectors Edition – A Thor-Sized Box Of Swag

April 8, 2010

(Don’t make a Zerg Rush joke. Don’t make a Zerg Rush joke. Don’t make a Zerg Rush joke.) So, Starcraft II is coming out. We don’t know when, exactly, but let’s assume that it is. Now, you have two options for picking up this hypothetical-for-now-but-really-coming-out game. You can pick up the normal version for $60. [...]

Beat Hazard – DDR vs. The Last Starfighter (feat. DJ You)

March 23, 2010

Beat Hazard has a simple, but cool premise: what if you were playing Audiosurf, right, but instead of surfing to your imported MP3s, you were shooting the living hell out of waves upon waves of spaceships, asteroids, and slightly bigger spaceships that shot lasers and rocket swarms? Put another way: it’s Audiosurf-as-shump for your 360.

March 8, 2010

2k Games released a press release today stating that their upcoming game Mafia II will feature over 50 covers and centerfolds from vintage issues of Playboy magazine. As the game is set in the 1950s (presumably some time after 1953, if Playboy’s not only around, but has a back catalog), copies of the magazine will [...]

Tanks Beat Nukes – Bad Company 2 vs Modern Warfare 2

February 28, 2010

(I wish I had a screenshot of the moment I’m about to describe. I really do.) I knew I liked Battlefield: Bad Company 2 better than Modern Warfare 2 when my first round in the demo ended with some enemy madman launching off a ridge in an ATV, soaring over me and my friends’ heads. [...]

Dynasty Warriors Strike Force Demo – Sure, Super Lu Bu. Why Not?

February 26, 2010

Lu Bu used to just be a dude, y’know? Sure, the rule of thumb was to just not ever get into a fight with him, but with a high enough level and a good deal of luck, you could take him. Now? Now he can turn into something like the Human Torch, owns what looks [...]

Resident Evil 5 Lost In Nightmares – Any Minute Now, A Dog’s Going To Jump Through That Window

February 25, 2010

“I feel like we should send Capcom a thank you note.” That was my friend, who was Jill. Er, playing Jill. I had been Chris, and we’d just finished Lost in Nightmares, the new DLC mission for Resident Evil 5. It’s a return to the original series premise of GI-Joes-in-a-zombie-house, a nostalgic little prequel episode [...]
