Heartbreaking Fails-When bad moments happen to good games

B button, waggle, repeat

Continuing from the first Heartbreaking Fail, or as one commenter called it Glaring Moments of Insanity, I’m going to move to the Wii. Full disclosure: I bought a crap ton of Wii games. Hell, I buy a bunch of games. But sometimes hype, support, and respect for the developers can blind a person’s wallet to what could be a forgettable affair: enter Madworld on the Wii.

Like Uncharted 2, it isn’t a bad game. I liked it. The whole concept of bludgeoning enemies for the sake of bludgeoning on a game show is totally okay with me if the writing and voice acting backs its up.  The art style is still striking and one of the more visually intriguing looking games in 2009. None of it stops the game from being repetitive and boring as all hell.

While the game gives out points for using creative and multiple kills, there was no reward for doing so. No new levels or minigames. No new abilities. Just longer scenes of carnage.

And the boss battles was the biggest proof of the repetitiveness. As much as I love chopping up people with a chainsaw, at least give me different ways to do it. Despite all the talk about the blood, violence, the talent involved and how hardcore it is, Madworld doesn’t do or accomplish anything different that No More Heroes hasn’t already done.

Hearbreaking Fail #1-Uncharted 2
