Heartbreaking Fails-When bad moments happen to good games

Part four of the Heartbreaking Fails brings us to a franchise that did exceedingly well in 2009, which was a rarity. Resident Evil became relevant again thanks to Resident Evil 4′s revolutionary design and stunning visuals, creating a lot of good will for the series. Both 5 and Darkside Chronicles are considered good games. So where do the fails come in?Well, in 5, after playing for some time, it became clear that some games are just crap without their creators. This is mere fact: go play the original Super Mario Bros. 2, which was missing Miyamoto and Guitar Hero is seriously missing Harmonix. Resident Evil 5 needed Shinji Mikami because despite all the thrills and action, the second half of the game was basically remixed portions of part 4. Some of the enemies were exactly the same, including the mini gun wielder and more El Gigantes.  Mikami would’ve dealyed it and added some new enemies and techniques. All this hype and build up to take on enemies you already defeated? And whats up with the medallion hunt down? Instead of being an amusing side quest, like it was in 4, it became a frustrating distraction, needing the use of a FAQ to find locations.  It’ s still an amazing game, with great co-op action and incredible firefights, but this was a case of one step forward and two steps back.

But it doesn’t compare to the fail that is Darkside Chronicles. Now, my biggest beef isn’t the fact that it’s on rails, when it could be a real RE game (for god sake’s-RE4 is on the Wii and RE5 was a phone-in of that game). The biggest fail is that it pisses on the canon on Resident Evil. The plot of all the entire franchise is ridiculous, insane, and just miles from anything normal. But it was consistent, damnit! Every single, silly plot thread that was followed paid off in other games and kept a nice flow that was gripping for fans. Why are they messing with Resident Evil 2? Leave it alone?

Fail #1-Uncharted 2

Fail #2-Madworld

Fail #3-House of the Dead: Overkill

True that – why mess with Resident Evil?
