Everyone knows that feeling where you’ve seen the commercial or trailer for a video game and gone totally bananas at how awesome it looked. Months later, the game is released, and you’ve come to find that when you wasted $60 on subpar visuals and recycled gameplay, most of that footage might have been taken from a single spot; yeah, that old-fashioned feeling where you know you’re only getting about $20 and a load of disappointment. I suspected something like that when I saw the trailer for Marvel vs. Capcom 3. I said to myself, “Wow, the intro looks cool, but I bet the game’s gonna basically be the same as the others.”
I was wrong.
Since word broke that we’d be getting a sequel, titled “The Fate of Two Worlds” for whatever reason (sarcasm, of course), there were only six confirmed characters, and of them, only one new character: Chris Redfield, all decked out in his B.S.A.A. uniform. Other than that, you have Ryu, Morrigan, the Hulk, Wolverine, and Iron Man made the roster.
I checked my mailbox Saturday; inside was the latest issue of Game Informer, containing some details and screenshots. Following Street Fighter IV’s success, Marvel vs. Capcom 3 goes 3D, and boy does it look good. The game uses the MT Framework game engine which powers Lost Planet 2 and Resident Evil 5, so expect to see an amazing and innovative new fighting game instead of a reincarnation of the previous title.
It’s been a decade since the last game, and Capcom knows what you’ve been playing. Dante of Devil May Cry 3 and Deadpool of X-Men fame are two exciting new names confirmed. You’ll also see some familiar faces, like Captain America, and Felicia of Darkstalkers. Other images floating around have shadowed figures in the background, one of which is unmistakably Capcom’s favorite gal, Chun-Li.
We’ve got about a year to wait though – release isn’t expected until Spring 2011.

This game will be epic.
Indeed this game will be epic. From all the characters to choose from in the second one, imagine how much work they will put in the selection on the third one. Hopefully there will be an ASSLOAD of cool characters to choose from.
