Monster Rancher has always had a small and loyal following, releasing plenty of games for Playstation consoles and a few titles for Game Boy over the past decade or so. The appeal of the disc games was the fact that monsters would be “extracted” from different discs, and that meant that all of your other games, all of your CDs and DVDs, and even burned CDs that may have just been crappy music mixes you made once upon a time would all give you some sort of monster, some more rare than others. The next installment of this series can’t do that because it’s on Nintendo DS, but brings you some intriguing new ways to make up for it.
In Monster Rancher DS, the traditional disc extraction is replaced with two different means. You can now use some artistic ability to create a monster. Fill a grid in whatever way you feel appropriate, and a monster is born. You’ll be able to use this method to gain access to the same monster over and over if desired.
You can also use the microphone to produce monsters. From the previews I’ve read, monster generation by this method is a little bit more random. You can try the same sound clip twice and get different results. It’s unclear as to why, but I’m still pretty curious about trying out this new feature.
Like all other Monster Rancher games, you will only have access to certain monsters at first, and you’ll have to upgrade your farm to accommodate larger monsters like Golem and Baku.
Monster Rancher DS is slated for a spring release, but no release date is confirmed at the moment.

This game is so retarded.
I played the Hydra Rancher map in Starcraft a couple times…
I remember when monster rancher came out on the ps2. We went through our entire collection of any and everything on CD.
That was the most fun part, i never really got into the game otherwise.
But anything to hold people over till the next Pokemon game.
