Mount & Blade not Mountain Blade.

Mount & Blade

Mount & Blade was released in 2008 and to be honest, when I saw the screen shots I thought it was a much older game, but that didn’t stop me from picking it up.  A few minutes in to I realized that the graphics really don’t do this game justice in sheer game play mechanics. Before I get in to that here is a little back ground.

The game was a project of two designers from Turkey, which when you really think about it, is a feat within itself.  This husband and wife duo went on to create the development company TaleWorlds.  I have nothing but respect for small companies that make great games like this.

The key features of this game lay in combat. When you first enter the game you’ll find yourself in a not so great looking over head map where you see castles and towns spread out throughout the land. Think of this as a Risk game board. The true game shows up when you move your character (which becomes your war band) in to another and decide to fight them.  The combat system is real time. You have to actively block and parry attacks. Control your troops with commands. Ultimately strategize to win the battles while you, the commander is in the heat of it yourself.

The Pros to this title greatly outweigh the few cons.  But if your someone who simply cannot stand slightly dated graphics you shouldn’t consider this title, but if you love historically accurate faction warfare with amazing mounted combat I suggest hopping on steam and trying the free demo for yourself.
