Everyone talks about Wii HD like it’s guaranteed to be released eventually and more importantly: like it’s a guaranteed improvement.  A console with Wii’s controls and Nintendo’s franchises + PS3 level graphics sounds sweet right?

The current era of video games is unmatched in creativity and technology. The current gen systems have games of all types which cater to gamers with varied tastes. As a lifelong fan of video games, I love all types of games. One genre of games that I have always had an appreciation for is the side-scrolling beat-em-up. From Double Dragon to Streets of Rage, old school brawlers were fun to play. Final Fight and River City Ransom were games that added more to the genre and made it more than just pressing two buttons.

Could This Be Closer Than We Think?

So, i hear a lot about people who laugh at motion controls. People who think the wii is pointless, and the Kinect just a gimmick. But may i suggest instead, that we look at this for the interesting piece of work we have here. Namely, if one where to combine several pieces of already available technology, we could be inches from experiencing that true gamer immersian, the 3D Holographic, interactive experiance.

When I think of the games of my youth, I think of my Nintendo and Super Nintendo games. However, I also remember arcade games like Konami’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and The Simpson’s Game. Another Konami arcade game stood out more than any other though, the X-Men Arcade Game.

As both a fan of film and video games, the synergy between them is understandable. While film is now churning out remake after remake, the world of video games is doing the same. There have been rumors swirling that Sony will do HD remakes of their classic games ICO and Shadow of the Collosus. With the constant rumors that Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy 7 getting the full HD makeup, one has to wonder where this will end.
