Both Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, and the feature film Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, each tentatively scheduled for release in May 2010, should be on the top of Prince of Persia fans’ lists of things to pay money for, right? Possibly, but there’s another franchise product that should top both of those items: Legos.
Imagine my excitement when I saw Lego’s new line of Prince of Persia sets. Not only do the sets feature cool pieces and new Lego animals, they don’t require fans to pay extra for the last page of the construction manual.
Does this also mean that a new series of Lego video games featuring Prince Dastan is in development? This writer wouldn’t mind another rehashed, slightly updated Lego adventure, but would Ubisoft be willing to let that happen? The Legos are based upon a movie that is based upon a video game, so it seems unlikely. However, such a decision could allow the Prince of Persia franchise to be enjoyed by a younger audience (assuming said younger audience has parents that actually pay attention to game ratings).
Still, as someone who enjoys playing through the puzzles and action on co-op with a loved one (and getting the doses of non-verbal Lego humour in between), I will still hope. In the meantime, I’m off to purchase a few Lego sets that won’t be outdated by the next console war.
