Super Mario Galaxy 2 & Metroid: Other M….THIS SUMMER?

Small interesting tidbit out of Nintendo’s Media Summit in Australia. Outside of the usual non-info Nintendo likes to dole out, it slipped out that Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Metroid: Other M, two of Nintendo’s biggest first party core offerings, will be on shelves for Wii owners sooner than most people think.

Instead of saving their biggest titles until the usual holiday season, both titles has been unofficially confirmed for Summer 2010.  Between June and August, two of the biggest Nintendo titles coming could be obtainable. While details need to be confirmed for the US Summit on February 24th, this could be huge news for Nintendo fans.

While its all rumor and speculation, let’s have fun with it! This seems awfully desperate on Nintendo’s part because Mario games have been a high seller for Nintendo. New Super Mario Bros. Wii is still a high seller, it seems premature to release a high-profile game so early for Nintendo.

And while Metroid has been an hardcore favorite, it’s never been as high profile as Nintendo would like. Even though their marketing staff has been narcoleptic on its treatment, Other M being released so close to Mario might lead to a sales flop. I hope it’s not true because Metroid has been one of my favorite series ever and it’s sad that this incredible series hasn’t found the same sales success as Link and Mario.

Speaking of Link, this could lead to more noise that the next console of Legend of Zelda might be Nintendo’s big holiday title.

Three of Nintendo’s top titles in one calendar year. This could be a highly lucrative year for Nintendo (as if they ever had a problem making money with the Wii.) But I worry that Nintendo may not have anything more past 2010. This is still all rumor and speculation with tomorrow’s Media Summit hopefully shedding more light on any details.

Metroid: Other M and Mario Galaxy 2 Coming Soon

yeah, what about post 2010? There may be reason for concern here…it does seem vaguely desperate of them. Well, we’ll just have to wait and see.

Well, they havent announced any E3 plans so there may be a chance for huge surprises, but itll mainly be about Zelda.
