What makes a video game good?

We are in an time where video games come out by the hundreds. Like snow falling from the sky you’re bound to have one land on your tounge. Or um… lap. And with that comes, at times,  a lack of quality.

Now-a-days you hear complaints about the smallest things. The game play is too similar. The graphics aren’t TOP NOTCH. The graphics are too TOP NOTCH. Sometimes it’s the story, or the dialogue is too cheesy.  Pretty much there’s always something wrong. I mean I understand that no game is perfect, and there will always be someone out there so full of pent up anger they just have to get mad a peace of plastic that makes digital people appear on your screen, but even then, sometimes you just can’t help but get sucked into their opinion. Making you feel unsure about what you originally thought was a good game.

They say “the graphics sucks”

you say “oh…yeah…okay…well I guess they’re not that great but I still like the game…”

“the story is cliche.”

“Yeah… a bit.”

“I’ve seen this all before.”

“Yeah…”

And unless you’re a true believer of the game you purchased, you slowly begin to believe all the negative reviews. But what makes a good game, a GOOD GAME? Is it the game play? the story? the whole package? I guess the only thing that makes a good game is the opinion of the buyer.

Like with all art. The lines between good and not so good blur like a drunk’s vision.

Point? um. There’s a point somewhere here…

I guess what I’m saying is: If you purchase a game, and it’s been crafted well, it looks like people took their time getting everything down just right, nothing REALLY big is wrong with it, and you got from it what it said you’d get (which you hardly ever do). Then you should be happy.

play your game. enjoy it for what it is. if you don’t like it; pick up something else.
